Farima Berenji
Farima Berenji holds a B.S. in Health Science, a B.A. in Art History, as well as an M.A. in Anthropology/Archeology with a special emphasis in International Relations. As a child, Farima was exposed to the world of art and dance by her mother who was a dancer, writer, and a musician. Farima continued her dance studies by taking extensive training in Persian folk, cultural dances, and gypsy dance, and performed with various professional dance groups and she is often a guest dancer performing abroad. Farima continued her passion by teaching dance in various ethnic and folk dance styles, teaching Persian/Egyptian History, and teaching Farsi in various educational institutions, community organization, as well as internationally. She has performed in various Persian Music videos and has been in variety of TV/Magazine advertisement. Farima is currently the assistant dance instructor of Ballet Afsaneh in San Jose, teaching Persian Folk, Azari, Kurdi, and Turkmen style dance.
Through out her anthropological career, Farima had the privilege of working with the United Nations, and since then, she has done various anthropological research and archeological excavation in Iran and neighboring countries. Some of her theoretical research and publications include: “Nomads of Iran,” “Cross-Cultural Education in Iran,” “Tribal and Cultural Dance of Iran,” “History of Persian Miniature Painting,” and “History of Persian Literature.” She also had the opportunity to be part of the CSU Hayward and the National Geographic research team for extensive research and a documentary project on “Human Genome Project/DNA.”
When not dancing, Farima spends her time painting, writing poems, playing soccer, and strengthens her musical and daf performance by working closely with her master, Ostad Nejad. She also volunteers her time by being the VP of Education for the United Nations Associations and travels frequently to Iran to promote and implement art, multicultural education/dance, and archeological excavations. Farima is committed to the preservation of Iranian culture and she is honored to be dancing with Ballet Afsaneh.
